Ever wondered how a successful journalist forges their path to success? Renowned Journalist and media personality, JESUS ”JESSE” SALAZAR shares how he did it and why he loves the industry
Hello I’m Jesus “Jesse” Salazar and I’m a journalist. I truly believe being a journalist is the best job in the world - I have it.
Presently I run my own video production company, SALAZAR MEDIA GRP, where I make NEWS driven Content video for clients and produce my own online video projects.
Now let’s be serious, journalism is a tough industry to be in at the moment
Print is slowly dying; newspapers are making people redundant while once loved magazines are closing down. TV is feeling the pinch thanks to on-demand viewing and binge-worthy Netflix productions. Radio has competition from podcasts.
As your profession changes, you have to change with it or you’ll be left behind. In society it’s not the smartest or strongest – it’s the most adaptable who survive.
I’ve been working as a journalist for 11 and I’ve never been unemployed.
In my career under the title of journalist I’ve worked as a; radio news crime reporter, radio current affairs program producer, radio newsreader, TV news producer, TV news reporter, TV program field producer, TV program researcher, TV program host, TV current affairs producer, newspaper gossip columnist, newspaper lifestyle reporter, newspaper entertainment editor-at-large, newspaper opinion columnist, TV opinion contributor, online co-host, online video producer, online video host, online written contributor, podcast co-host, podcast host, podcast producer and finally founder of a video production company.
Yes I’ve had a lot of jobs but that’s what I love about journalism. Every day is different and the industry has so many interesting facets
I saw a gap in the market so I decided to take a leap of faith. I quit my job and formed my own VIDEO Production Company.
I’ve never felt more confident and happy with a career decision.
Is this what I thought I’d be doing when I started in journalism 23 years ago? Hell no.
It’s a crazy ride with no set path to success, so forge your own path. And remember - adapt or die

Kyle Rittenhouse, the 17-year-old gunman accused of killing protesters in Kenosha, Wis., in August, posted $2 million bail and was released from custody on Friday.
Rittenhouse, who prosecutors say had an older friend buy him a gun, faces five criminal charges for killing Joseph Rosenbaum and Anthony Huber and wounding Gaige Grosskreutz.
The charges include first-degree intentional homicide, first-degree reckless homicide and attempted first-degree intentional homicide.
"He was turned over to his own security detail arranged by his attorney and is no longer in our custody," Sgt. David Wright of the Sheriff's Department said, the Kenosha News reported.

As the country received the news that the Associated Press and other news outlets had called Pennsylvania for Democrat Joe Biden, giving him enough Electoral College votes to become the 46th president of the United States of America, reactions were wide-ranging in the Chicagoland area.
Cheers and car horns rang out in some areas as the news spread on Saturday, including near Trump Tower in downtown Chicago, while some said they hoped the president challenged the election results.
Chicago’s Mayor stated the outcome of the election “opens up boundless possibilities for the return of science, the rule of law, respect for civil rights” and help for “our most vulnerable” citizens and communities.

A sexual assault charge against Jacob Blake, the Black man shot in the back by police in August, touching off weeks of protests in Wisconsin, was dropped on Friday, according to court records.
Appearing via Zoom,Blake pleaded guilty to two counts of disorderly conduct and domestic abuse and was sentenced to two years of probation, Kenosha County court records showed.
He appeared Friday via Zoom Friday and pleaded guilty to two counts of disorderly conduct, for which he was sentenced to two years of probation.
Blake is paralyzed following the August shooting and has been undergoing treatment at a rehabilitation center in Illinois since being released from the hospital. He will be allowed to live in Illinois under the terms of his probation.
Blake was charged with sexual assault for domestic incidents that happened months before he was shot. After the shooting, he was handcuffed to his hospital bed, as he was in federal custody for the outstanding warrant, though the cuffs were removed and Milwaukee deputies standing guard were dismissed after he posted bail.
The newly Criminal Complaint alleges that “Jacob Blake” shows a pattern of abuse towards women as well shows alleged course of conduct for his role in a “Sexual Assault“ towards former.
Protesters reportedly shouting slogans like "Death to the police!" showed up to the Los Angeles area hospital treating two law enforcement officers who were ambushed and shot on Saturday.
"To the protesters blocking the entrance [and] exit of the HOSPITAL EMERGENCY ROOM yelling 'We hope they die' referring to 2 LA Sheriff's ambushed today in #Compton: DO NOT BLOCK EMERGENCY ENTRIES [AND] EXITS TO THE HOSPITAL. People's lives are at stake when ambulances can't get through," the LA County Sheriff's Department wrote on Twitter early Sunday morning.
They were saying 'Death to the police' and 'Kill the police,' and these are sheriffs, but the message is still the same. They were using all types of curse words and derogatory terms," he told KABC. "Unacceptable behavior, because a hospital should be a sanctuary.
KENOSHA — Kyle Rittenhouse could spend the rest of his life behind bars if he is convicted of the first-degree intentional homicide charges he faces in the killings of Anthony Huber and Joseph Rosenbaum.
However, several attorneys and gun-rights advocates who have spoken out about the case say there’s a good chance the teenager’s claims to self-defense will win the day in court.
During my Investigation, I uncovered an incomplete and inaccurate story being told in the wake of the shocking night Kyle Rittenhouse shot three strangers amidst the chaos of riots and looting in Kenosha. Rittenhouse is a 17-year-old from Antioch, Illinois. On Aug. 25, he traveled to Kenosha, a city to which he is familiar.
